The Mars Volta has nothing on these guys. TMV might kick it louder, but The Absent Sound is just as out there, exploring the world of soundscapes and sonics one careful decibel at a time. Donıt let this disc trick you with itıs relatively brief opening tracks ? itıs just setting you up for a 22-minute magnum opus called The Way the Land Lay. Rob, Brian and Dave are in control of this ambient, experimental journey, and youıd best release your seatbelt and inhibitions and feel free to float about the cabin. Pay attention to the man on stilts behind the curtain as he may teach you something about prog rock sound engineering. Together with Mahogany Frog, REDSAYNO and others, The Absent Sound is proving that Winnipeg seems to be closer to the astral plane than many would think. Follow them wherever they may go... and enjoy grooving, hypnotic and aptly named tracks such as Sinking Out of Body.
